ARC-141: Soft deprecate Osmosis Astroport deployment

Summary

This proposal recommends the soft deprecation of the Astroport deployment on the Osmosis network due to its lack of meaningful activity, with an average daily trading volume of only $10,000 over the past 30 days. As part of this soft deprecation, Osmosis will be removed from vxASTRO emissions, and the network will no longer be accessible via the main Astroport app. Instead, a simplified UI based solely on direct public node queries, with the ability to switch the node being used, will be provided. This approach allows users to continue interacting with the deployment while minimizing operational costs.

Motivation

The Osmosis Astroport deployment has consistently shown low activity, with an average daily trading volume of $10,000 over the past 30 days, and negligible revenue generation. This level of activity does not justify the operational costs of maintaining Osmosis as part of the main Astroport app. While the deployment does not warrant a full hard deprecation, reducing its operational footprint is necessary to optimize Astroport’s resources.

By removing Osmosis from vxASTRO emissions and transitioning to a lightweight UI based on direct public node queries, Astroport can significantly reduce the costs associated with running the deployment while still allowing users to access and utilize the Osmosis network. The ability to switch the public node being used ensures flexibility and reliability for users. This approach ensures that the deployment remains functional for users while prioritizing the protocol’s efficiency and sustainability.

Implementation

  1. Remove Osmosis from vxASTRO emissions:
    • Exclude Osmosis pools from receiving vxASTRO emissions.
  2. Transition to Public Node Query-Based UI:
    • Develop and deploy a simplified UI for Osmosis that relies solely on direct public node queries.
    • Include functionality to allow users to switch the public node being used for queries, ensuring flexibility and reliability.
  3. Remove Osmosis from Main Astroport App:
    • Remove Osmosis from the main Astroport app to reduce operational costs.
    • Provide clear communication to users about the transition and the availability of the new UI.

Conclusion

Soft deprecating the Osmosis Astroport deployment allows Astroport to optimize its resources while maintaining functionality for users. With an average daily trading volume of only $10,000, removing Osmosis from vxASTRO emissions and transitioning to a lightweight UI based on direct public node queries will significantly reduce costs while ensuring users retain access to the deployment. The ability to switch the public node being used further enhances the reliability of the solution. This approach balances sustainability with user accessibility, ensuring the protocol remains efficient and adaptable.
