Summary
This proposal seeks to adjust Astroport governance parameters by reducing the quorum requirement from 10% to 6% and updating governance timing configurations to reflect the faster block times introduced by the Neutron Mercury upgrade (~1.5 seconds per block). These changes aim to improve governance efficiency and ensure accurate timing for proposal execution.
Motivation
With the launch of vxASTRO and the Eclipse Equinox platform, a significant amount of ASTRO has been staked and locked for emissions voting. However, not all vxASTRO has the ability to be used for governance voting, making it more difficult to achieve the current quorum requirement of 10%. This will create challenges in passing proposals, potentially slowing down protocol decision-making. Reducing the quorum to 6% will make governance more accessible while maintaining sufficient decentralization and security.
Additionally, the recent Neutron Mercury upgrade reduced block times to approximately 1.5 seconds, causing governance timings to occur faster than intended. Updating the block time configurations will ensure governance processes, such as voting periods and proposal execution delays, align with the new block times.
Implementation
- Reduce Quorum Requirement:
- Update the quorum parameter for governance proposals from 10% to 6% to make it easier to pass proposals while maintaining robust governance participation.
- Update Governance Timing Configurations:
- Adjust governance timing parameters to account for the new block time of ~1.5 seconds:
- Voting Period: Update the number of blocks to match the intended voting duration.
- Execution Delay: Update the delay period to reflect the faster block times.
- Adjust governance timing parameters to account for the new block time of ~1.5 seconds:
Conclusion
Adjusting the quorum requirement to 6% will make it easier to pass governance proposals, addressing the challenges caused by the increase in non-voting vxASTRO. Updating the governance timing configurations will ensure that governance processes remain accurate and aligned with the faster block times introduced by the Neutron Mercury upgrade. These changes will enhance the efficiency and functionality of Astroport governance, ensuring the protocol can adapt to its evolving ecosystem.
